What is Civic Addressing?
- Civic Addressing is a province-wide standardized system of identifying and locating properties by establishing unique access point locations. This system is used to assist emergency responders such as police, fire, and ambulance in finding residences and businesses quickly in the event of an emergency.
- In the case of an emergency, dial 911 and provide the operator with your Civic Address and Emergency responders will be able to quickly navigate to your property.
- It is advised to also provide your legal land location and any landmarks that will assist emergency responders in locating your property. Please ensure all members of your family or employees of your business know your Civic Address. It is advised to post your Civic Address near the phone for quick reference.
- Your Civic Address IS NOT a mailing address*. Civic Addresses can be provided to individuals, businesses, and services to assist in navigation to your property.
*A Civic Addresses may be part of a mailing address in some locations where a developer registered their development with Canada Post.
